Effective Websites

Internet has become one of the "Go-Tos" when it comes to research, whether for professional (academic) or personal reasons.

How do webmasters/designers ensure that their products (sites) are well received and popular among 'media consumers' from all walk of life?

We have populated a starter list (key components) here:

Effective:

  • -Clear purpose of the websites
  • -Allow feedback to improve
  • -Organized
  • -Accessible website for everyone to use (public, cross-platform, free)
  • -Design (color, theme and form)
  • -Information updated regularly
  • -Originality (One of a kind; rare information)

Ineffective:

  • -Irrelevant content
  • -Vague information
  • -Too many ads/distractions
  • -Information all over the place
  • -Incomplete information/ideas
We will continue to add to this list after we spend sometime evaluating and examining different websites.

  3. http://www.emcarroll.com/

This website was designed in a well organized manner, using simple colours to make it look clean and well-cut. The creator of this website is Emily Carroll, and she made sure that the readers understand that, and she also explained right away the purpose of the site, which is her illustrations. Brilliantly keeping her pages to the side in big letters, you may find the pages with ease. Keeping it plain, and wonderful, this is a great website.

  7. Mr. Huang this is jack. I have found a website that meets all of the effective stuff on the check list. The website is

    http://www.realmadrid.com/cs/Satellite/en/Actualidad_Primer_Equipo_en/1193041476158/1330146913073/noticia/Noticia/Real_Madrid_are_the_only_unbeaten_team_at_home_in_the_big_five_European_leagues.htm.

If you compare this site to my site i would say that this site shows more of what the website is try to show, my website shows it but it also has stuff other then my work as for the website above, it shows that it's only focus is on sports. Also if you compare the website to mine i feel like my website is more organized then the one above.

  9. Here is the link to the J.R.R Tolkien Website, concerning his biography and literary works:
    http://tolkien.cro.net/
To compare this to my own website, it is more informative in general about the his life and works, for when it comes to J.R.R Tolkien, there is much to learn and discuss. The website has a simple layout, like mine, and all the links in the sidebar are very easy to access. I give credit to the fact that, like mine, the extensive amount of information is properly organized, and this evades from any confusion from the viewers. There aren't many advertisements, and the few that are displayed are relevant to the website, like for example, advertisements to purchase the Lord of the Rings Book Trilogy Collection. If you are a Tolkien fan, and want to know more about him, I recommend this website to you.

  10. Here is a link to a Sidney Crosby website.
    http://www.sidneycrosbyfans.info/
Compared with my website, this website is way more informative, because he has done many more things in his life. Also, this website, along with mine, is very clear about the topic it discusses. Also, my website and Sidney Crosby's portfolio website are both easily accessible. The down side about Crosby's website, is that it has many ads at the sides and tops. Overall though, I think that the Sidney Crosby website is better than mine.

  11. http://www.timtebow.com/

    -Clear purpose of the websites

This website is a base of Tim Tebow where he talks about himself and posts recent events about himself. It has a lot of his background experience, which includes his own personal life and achievements.

    -Allow feedback to improve

There is a contact area where I believe people can talk to representatives or Tim himself about things that are concerning them. Improvement could be mentioned through this type of communication.

    -Organized

It is a very well organized site where tabs, link, galleries and other important subjects are easy to locate and use. The site has been made with a format that helps the reader have a good "ease of access".

-Accessible website for everyone to use (public, cross-platform, free)

Tim Tebow's site is absolutely free. The site's access is free of charge with no pop-ups for an upgrade. Very easily accessed by it's public and view4free base.

    -Design (color, theme and form)

I really like the design. I find it targeted to both boys and girls who enjoy greyish/blueish websites that have nice layouts. To me, I found it eye-grabbing that keeps me interested to read more and more. The theme, color and form is a major part and this site did an excellent job.

    -Information updated regularly

At the top, there are tweets, that are updated as Tim tweets. They can be anything relating to him or anything he feels like saying. I find these updates to be a good way of receiving information through technology.

-Originality (One of a kind; rare information)

Well, this is Tim Tebow's site. His own auto-biography book wrapped up in a website. It has great, concise information that relate to Tim and Tim only.

Comparing: My site is developing and I hope I can change it properly to meet the expectations/success criteria for a effective site, just as Tim's. I have a decent theme and format. I believe that I should improve it to make it more interesting and appealing.
