The numbers are 4,7,8. This is because for the first block it is a 4 so that will be the first number. Then near the end it is an 8. Then so 4+8=12. The 19-12=7 so the last number is 7. So then it's 4,7,8,4,7,8,4,7,8,4. Then if you add any 3 numbers next to each other it adds up to 19.
The answer for the POTW Grade 7 is 4784784784. The reason is because the numbers must include 4 and 8, as they are revealed. Also, if it is not a repeating decimal, then this question will not work. It says that any 3 consecutive blocks can add up to 19, so 478 can equal 19.then 784 is also 19. Finally 847 is also 19, and then it just keeps repeating.
Grade 7 POTW: How I did it was that I see a pattern with the values. I know that there is an 8 and a 4, so I see a pattern with the 4 and 8. It jumps by 3. This allows me to add them up, giving me 12, and 19-12=7 so the value is 4,7,8. So, S=7. -Alan
The numbers along the blocks are 4, 7, 8, 4, 7, 8, 4, 7, 8, 4. In any of the three blocks, it will all add up to 19. To figure this out, I found a pattern. Since I saw that the pattern needed to incorporate 4 and 8, I found the next number by adding 4+8. That gives me 12. Then I did 19-12, giving me 7. So, I found different possible patterns, and 4, 7, 8 worked. Therefore, S would be 7.
The numbers on the blocks are 4 7 8 4 7 8 47 8 4. I was already given 4 and 8. 4 in the first spot and 8 in the 9th spot and I knew that the pattern on the blocks would three numbers (two of which are 4 and 8) would repeat because three consecutive numbers have to add up to 19. Because 4 is first block, it will start the pattern. It would be... 4 ? ? 4 ? ? 4 ? 8 ?. As you can see, 8 is the third number in the pattern (in the second repeat) , so the pattern would be... 4 ? 8 4 ? 8 4 ? 8 4. Three consecutive numbers have to add up to 19. 8 and 4 will always be a part of the three consecutive numbers accompanied by another number. The other number must be a 7 because 4 + 7 + 8 = 19. Therefore, the pattern will be 4, 7, 8, repeating again till there are 10 digits (there are ten blocks).
S is the 5 block in the pattern and in the sequence 4 7 8 4 7 8 4 7 8 4, 7 is the 5th number.
Grade 8 POTW: As stated in the question, the 9 numbers in the boxes are 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17. Now, I have to find clues to see how to figure out each number.
First clue: Looking at the first row and the right column, they both have the letter B in it, but the first row also has A. Since they both have B, A+1=13+3. Simplified, A = 15. So, I have figured out the first value. Second Clue: I can see that B,C, and D all have a relationship. Because for B, the rows and columns add up to 16 only, but for C, the middle row adds up to 18. Therefore, the value of B must be 2 more than C. For the leftmost column, I can see that the other two numbers would add to 20, and middle row would only add up to 18. This shows that C is 2 more than D.
Using this information, I can find all their values since I know the 9 numbers that are supposed to be in each box. To figure out their values, I have to find three consecutive odd numbers.
The only numbers I have left are 7,9,11, and 17. Now I know that D=7, C=9, and B=11. All that is left is the number 17, and the letter E. E=17. According to the question, I have to find the value of A+E. Since A=15, and E=17, 15+17=32. The value of A+E=32. --Alan
NO! THESE QUESTIONS TAKE ME SO LONG! Once in a puzzle game I had this type of question, where I had to make all the rows, columns and diagnosis equal, it took me an hour and a half ;-; well, Time starts now! XD ( at 3:13pm) Here's How I solved this: I actually don't use any methods for these questions, I just guess and check ( welp ;-;) There is a method though, I just don't use it because I don't take enough time thinking about if there's a method or not, ahaha... XD
SO first I named the first 9 odd numbers: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17 Next I placed all the numbers I know into the box A 1 B 5 C 13 D E 3
Next I did guess and check : A 1 B 5 C 13 D E 3 B = 7?? A 1 7 5 C 13 D E 3 3 + 13 + 7 = 23 total sum that we want is 23? Does the rest until it doesn't or does work: 15 1 7 5 C 13 3?! E 3 Since three was already used, this isn't possible A 1 B 5 C 13 D E 3 B = 9? A 1 9 5 C 13 D E 3 3 + 13 + 9 = 25 Total sum for row, column or diagonal is 25? Fill out the rest till it works or doesn't: 15 1 9 5 C 13 5 E 3 Since 5 was already used this doesn't work. A 1 B 5 C 13 D E 3 B = 11? A 1 11 5 C 13 D E 3 3 + 13 + 11= 27 total sum for row, column, and diagonals is 27? Fill out the rest until proven right or wrong: 15 1 11 5 9 13 7 17 3 It works! Now we just take what was A and E and add them together: A + E = 15 + 17 = 32 The sum of 15 and 17 is 32 BUT THE REAL QUESTION IS! How long did it take?
The answer to the Grade 7 POTW IS S=7. I found this out with the numbers that were revealed, 4 and 8. Since the sum of 3 consecutive letters is 19, there had to be a pattern involved so it all equals 19. By looking at the numbers, I saw that it was a repeating pattern of 3 numbers. The first number is 4 and the third one is 8. S is the fifth letter which means it is equivalent to the second number in the pattern. To find out the second number, I need to find the difference between (8+4) and 19. 8+4=12 19-12=7 7 is the second number in the pattern which means S=7.
Since I needed to find the numbers for 3 consecutive blocks, I tried to find a pattern in every three blocks. I found that the first block would equal a 4, and the third block would always equal an 8. Since the total is 19, we must figure out the difference between 12 (8+4) and 19.
19-12=7.
Since the difference is 7, the pattern of numbers would be 4,7,8. Since the "S" block is equal to the second number in the pattern, S is equal to 7.
If I can figure out what P and Q are I can figure out the whole thing. I noticed that if 4, P and Q equal 19 that means that R has to be four because P and Q don't change. Following this rule the cubes so far say: 4, P, Q, 4, S, T, 4, V, 8, 4. Since at the end I have 2 numbers I can figure out what V is because 4, 8 and V have to equal 19. 8 + 4 = 12, 19 - 12 = 7. V = 7. Using that information I know that every letter after a 4 is 7 then 8, then another 4 and so on. This means that S = 7 because it is after a four.
For the Grade 7 POTW, the answer for S would be 7. The reason why is because we were given the numbers 4 and 8. And since the problem said that the sum of all 3 blocks has to be 19, 4+8=12, 19-12=7. This means that there must be a 7 there too. So as my 1st number in the pattern was 4, and my last is 8, my 7 must be the second one. So, S=7.
Since we know that for it to work we need to have a repeating group of numbers. In this case we know that the pattern of 3 numbers would have a 4 and a 8. Now to add it up this would be equivalent to 7. Since it needs to add up to 19 we add a 7. Now to put in in the place of the blocks. 4 7 8 4 7 8 4 7 8 4 ^ S S is 7
The answer to the grade 8 potw is 32. This is because you have to find out all the hidden numbers. First I determined that b is 4 more than d. Then using that, I determined e to be 17, because if b is 4 more than d, then e needs to be 4 more than 13. Then knowing that a number may only appear once, I could assume that b is 11 and d is 7. Then doing the math each row adds up to 27. With this I could make a to be 15 and c to be 9. Then redoing the math it all adds up. Then a+e is 17+15=32.
Since the questions didn't mention that the numbers cant repeat, we can simply find the answer. We can look for a pattern in the numbers. We know that any three consecutive numbers, equal 19. We can see that 4 is the first number. This means that the next 2 blocks have to equal 15 when added together. But then if we look further down the line of blocks, we can see an 8. So I knew that an 8 was in the pattern as well. This leaves us with only 7 left until we get to 19. That means that all 3 of our consecutive numbers are 4, 8 and 7. But now we have to put them in the correct order. I drew a little image that helped me figure this out.
4 P Q R S T U V 8 W We can see here that all the 4's line up correctly. 4 - - 4 - - 4 - - 4
4 P Q R S T U V 8 W We can see here that all the 8's line up correctly. 4 - 8 4 - 8 4 - 8 4 The eight (between V and W) and the eight below line up together meaning that we are correct. This also means that 7 would go between 4 and 8. In the end the order of all the numbers is 4, 7, 8. This means that s would equal 7.
POTW Grade 7: Here's how I solved it From the question, you know that three numbers must repeat as " any three consecutive" numbers will add up to 19. Since they reveal 8 and 4, you know that the third number is 19- (8+4) 19 - (8 + 4) = 19 - 12 = 7 The third number is 7, Looking at the blocks again, since 4 appears first, you know it will have to appear last since there is 10 blocks, This means 4 comes first out of the three, and 8 comes last, meaning 7 comes second so from this you can label the blocks: 4 7 8 4 7 8 4 7 8 4 S is the fifth block, and the fifth number is 7 S = 7
To solve this question I first named the first 9 positive odd numbers which are 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17. Then I took away 1,3,5,13 from the list because they were already shown to get 7,9,11,15,17. After that I made equations that would help me solve the question. They are: A+1+B=X 5+C+13=X D+E+3=X A+5+D=X 1+C+E=X D+13+3=X A+C+3=X B+C+D=X Next I started plugging in numbers to B which was where I would start. At first I started with 11 on B to get X=27. Then I tried filling out another 2 to check if X=27 would work. I made A= 15 to get another X=27. I made D=7 to get another X=27 thus X should equal to 27. Then I just followed through in plugging in the numbers: A=15 B=11 C=9 D=7 E=17 After that to find the sum of A+E i just added 15+17 to get 32.
The value of S in POTW 9 GRADE 7 is 7. I figured this out by looking at 4 and 8. 19-4+8[12] would be 7 leaving only two possibilities. My next task was to find which order lined up with 8. 4,8,7 did not work so I tried 4,7,8... And it worked! That is why S=7.
GRADE 8 [Attempt[Probably Wrong[This Type Of Puzzle Trips Me Up]]]: I tried every possible solution to the column with 2 numbers and figured out 11 was the same with 15 [Both of which fit] so I then went on [After the A,C,3 diagonal which was also 27 with the fit] to fill out the rest based on simple addition. Every row, column and diagonal adds up to 27 though, the big question... 15[A]+17[E]=32. The answer is 32.
( I HAD TO DO THIS TWICE BECAUSE I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED MY TAB D: )
First what I listed all the numbers that were going to be used in my answer which were 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17. From these numbers, 1,3,,5 and 15 wer already given in the puzzle. The first clue that I noticed was that the first row and last column share the same number or letter, and the first row also has the letter A, so I made the equation A+1 = 13+3, which after simplification gave me an answer of A=15 The next thing I realised was that the letters B,C and D had a correlation, And after some minor mental calculations, It was clear that the value of C is two less than the value of B. The only two numbers with a difference of 2 are 9 and 7. So now it is clear that C = 9 and D = 7. So now we have to find the value of B and E, And for this I simply used the trial and error method in which I assumed that B = 11 and E = 17 because the last row has a small total amount. and it was successful. So now we know all the values of the numbers. A = 15 B = 11 C = 9 D = 7 E = 17
Now for the actual question : What is the value of A + E = 15 + 17 = 32 is the answer
Here is how I went about solving the Grade 7 POTW: First I analyzed the blocks and found that two values were given to me, 4 and 8. Then I saw that the question stated that any three consecutive blocks have to equal 19. So I decided to add 4 and 8 (which gave me a sum of 12), and then subtracted 12 from 19 which gave me a difference of 7. Therefore, S is equal to 7. I then found that all of the blocks can be assigned a value in the order: 4,7,8,4,7,8,4,7,8,4. If you check, then the block with S, matches 7 in the order given and any three consecutive blocks equal 19.
ReplyDeleteThe question was to solve S, not all of the blocks.
DeleteWell then my answer is S=7

POTW Grade 7:
ReplyDeleteHere's how I solved it
From the question, you know that three numbers must repeat as " any three consecutive" numbers will add up to 19.
Since they reveal 8 and 4, you know that the third number is 19- (8+4)
19 - (8 + 4) =
19 - 12 = 7
The third number is 7,
Looking at the blocks again, since 4 appears first, you know it will have to appear last since there is 10 blocks, This means 4 comes first out of the three, and 8 comes last, meaning 7 comes second so from this you can label the blocks:
4 7 8 4 7 8 4 7 8 4
S is the fifth block, and the fifth number is 7
S = 7
To solve this question I first named the first 9 positive odd numbers which are 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17. Then I took away 1,3,5,13 from the list because they were already shown to get 7,9,11,15,17. After that I made equations that would help me solve the question. They are:
ReplyDeleteA+1+B=X
5+C+13=X
D+E+3=X
A+5+D=X
1+C+E=X
D+13+3=X
A+C+3=X
B+C+D=X
Next I started plugging in numbers to B which was where I would start. At first I started with 11 on B to get X=27. Then I tried filling out another 2 to check if X=27 would work. I made A= 15 to get another X=27. I made D=7 to get another X=27 thus X should equal to 27. Then I just followed through in plugging in the numbers:
A=15
B=11
C=9
D=7
E=17
After that to find the sum of A+E i just added 15+17 to get 32.
ReplyDeleteGRADE 8 [Attempt[Probably Wrong[This Type Of Puzzle Trips Me Up]]]: I tried every possible solution to the column with 2 numbers and figured out 11 was the same with 15 [Both of which fit] so I then went on [After the A,C,3 diagonal which was also 27 with the fit] to fill out the rest based on simple addition. Every row, column and diagonal adds up to 27 though, the big question... 15[A]+17[E]=32. The answer is 32.
( I HAD TO DO THIS TWICE BECAUSE I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED MY TAB D: )
ReplyDeleteFirst what I listed all the numbers that were going to be used in my answer which were 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17. From these numbers, 1,3,,5 and 15 wer already given in the puzzle.
The first clue that I noticed was that the first row and last column share the same number or letter, and the first row also has the letter A, so I made the equation A+1 = 13+3, which after simplification gave me an answer of A=15
The next thing I realised was that the letters B,C and D had a correlation, And after some minor mental calculations, It was clear that the value of C is two less than the value of B.
A = 15
B = 11
C = 9
D = 7
E = 17
Now for the actual question :
What is the value of A + E
= 15 + 17
= 32 is the answer
Here is how I went about solving the Grade 7 POTW:
ReplyDeleteFirst I analyzed the blocks and found that two values were given to me, 4 and 8.
