POTW #33 - Probability Practice Again

Great work on last week's POTW. If you did or even didn't obtain 3/50 or 0.06 or 6% please check below for how to obtain that correct solution.

  1. 38/1920
    1920 possibilities (8 x 12 x 20)
for the first 8 die 7/8 is a number not 5. from there only 1/1920 for each can be double 5 leading to 7/1920
for the last 5, you go to the next 1/12 die. 20/1920 for it to be a five on the first and second die (1/8 x 1/12)
11 more numbers that aren't five and for the final 20 die, there is a 1/20 chance of five for each of the 11 leading to 11/1920 (1/8 x 11/12 x 1/20)
when added all together, there is a 38/1920 chance of double 5

  3. (31/1920) There is 1 possibility in 1-2. There are 11 non-overlapping possibilities in 2-3. Finally, there are 18 combinations that do not overlap in 1-3.

    1. I think you missed seven from rolling a 5 on the 12 die, and a 5 on the twenty die. Since you already counted the 1 possibility(Which is actually 1,2,3) you can subtract 1.
      Example:
1 on the eight die, 5 on the twelve die, 5 on the twenty die,
2 on the eight die, 5 on the twelve die, 5 on the twenty die,
      And so on.

  4. Cindy's And John's POTW (Cuz he didn't want to type it)
    8*12*20=1920

We first start off with if we got 5 on the 8 sided dice and the 12 sided dice. WE then have 19 numbers to land on excluding 5 and so we have 19 possibilies

    19+11+7=
    37
But we also have our triple 5 so a total of 38 possibilities of double or more 5s.

    38/1920
    19/960 (Simplified)
