POTW #10

  1. There are 94 houses on Consecutive Crescent. I know because I drew a diagram, in which 37 to 1 is to the left, and there are 36 houses to the left of 37. 84-36=48. This means the first house on the other side of Consecutive Crescent is house #48. Since 48 is the fist house on one side, 47 should be the last house on the other side. So, there are 47 houses on each side of the street. 47+47=94, so there are 94 houses total.

    The difference between 37 and 84 is 47, which means there are 46 houses in between 37 and 84. If 37 is the end of one side and 84 is the end of the other, than they will have 36 houses in between. But they are supposed to have 46 houses, so it is a 10 house gap. So i put an extra 10 houses after 37.

    But then house 38-47 will not be opposite any house so i added and extra 10 houses after 84. 84+10=94
    There are 94 houses on consecutive crescent.

  3. Hello! My sister and I did this question together.

    We think that there are 94 houses on Consecutive Crescent.

    First we subtracted 84 by 37. The difference is 47. This means that the difference between every opposite house is 47.

    e.g HOUSE 1 (first side) ---> HOUSE 48 (second side)

    Assuming that the end of the crescent would be HOUSE 47, the opposite house would be HOUSE 94 (47 + 47 = 94)

    That means the consecutive numbering continues on the opposite side, starting at 48. This is correct because the difference between the first house and the 48th house is 47. From here, it continues all the way to the opposite end of the first side (47 first side, 94 second side)

    Therefore, there are 94 houses on Consecutive Crescent.

  4. I think that there are 94 houses on the consecutive crescent because based on my knowledge and methods I used a basic of consecutive patterning and simple subtraction/addition.
    My first step was simple pattering I basically just drew a diagram similar to others 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 (ones side of the consecutive crescent)
    48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69 70 71 72 73 74 75 76 77 78 79 80 81 82 83 84 (the opposite side of the crescent)
    1. I subtracted 84-37= 47 houses on the opposite side.
    Therefore I obtained the information of both sides having 47 houses each in the crescent because from the subtraction above, it shows that the set of consecutive numbers start from 1 to 37 on one side of the crescent and 38-84.
    2. Based on my assumption I was able to infer that one side has 47 houses, therefore the other side probably has 47 houses so 47+47= 94 houses in total.
    Therefore there are 94 houses in total in the consecutive crescent.

  5. There are several ways to solve this problem. Congrats to those peeps who got 94!

    One solution:
    In this solution we will use logic to reason the number of houses on Consecutive Crescent.
    There are 36 houses before house 37 on the one side of the road. Therefore, there must be 36
    houses on the other side of the road before house number 84.
    So the first house on the other side of the road is house number 84 - 36 = 48. Therefore, the
    last house on the first side is house number 47.
    Each house on one side has a house directly across from it on the other side. Since there are 47
    houses on one side, there are 47 houses on the other side and there are a total of 47 x 2 = 94
    houses on Consecutive Crescent.
