POTW #8 - How much time?

25 comments:

  1. It took Manny 1 hour and 33 minutes, or 93 minutes to cut the entire lawn.
    To solve this problem, I first found out how much cutting 10% would take with each mower:

    For the Push Mower, if 100% is 5 hours, I divided it by 5 to get 20%, which takes 1 hour. Then I divided that by half, to get 10%, which is equal to 1/2 hour or 30 mins.

    For the Powerful Riding Mower, to mow the entire lawn, it would take 70 minutes. So 70 divided by 10 would get 7 minutes, or 10%. Then I multiplied 7 by 9 to find the time it would take to cut 90% of the lawn. So 7 times 9 equaled 63 minutes, plus the 30 minutes with the Push Mower, would equal 93 minutes or 1 hour and 33 minutes.

  2. It took Manny 93 minutes and 42 seconds to mow the lawn. I know this because first I found 90% of 70 since it said that he mowed 90% of the lawn using his powerful mower. I found that it would take 63 minutes and 42 seconds to mow 90% of the lawn using the powerful mower. Then I went and found 10% of 5 hours. First I turned the number into a minute. 5x60=300. 10% of 300 is 30. Then I did 63 minutes and 42 secs plus 30 minutes. 63+30=93. Therefore it would take him 93 minutes and 42 seconds to mow the entire lawn when he mows 90% of the lawn using his powerful mower and 10% of the lawn using his push motor.

  3. I did my math on a document, but here's my answer:
    It took Manny 93 minutes or 1 hour and 33 minutes to mow the lawn with both the powerful mower (90%) and the push mower (10%).

  4. Manny spent 93 minutes cutting the lawn. I found this, by first calculating and converting the times for lawn mowing with the different lawn mowers.
    5 hours = 300 minutes, divided by 100 = 3/300 = 1/100. Then I multiplied 3 X 10% = 30. So Manny spent 30 minutes using the push mower.
    70 minutes, divided by 100 = 0.7/70 = 1/100. Then I multiplied 0.7 X 90% = 63 minutes. 30 minutes + 63 minutes = 93 minutes. Manny spent 93 minutes mowing the lawn with the push mower and the riding mower

  5. Here's How I did it:
    When using a Push Mower it Would take 5 hours to care for the lawn or 300 mins as five hours is equal to 300 minutes.
    When using the powerful riding mower it would take 70 mins.
    I divided by ten to get how long it would take to finish ten percent of the lawn it would take the push mower 30 minutes, when using the Powerful ridding mower it would take 7 minutes.
    Since Manny used the powerful ridding mower for 90 percent of the lawn he would have taken 63 minutes because 7 x 9 to get how long it would take to do 90 percent of the lawn, he then used the push mower for the last 10 percent of the lawn which would of taken 30 minutes. Add it all together to find the total amount of time it would take and you will get 93 minutes, it would take Manny 93 minutes.

  6. It took Manny 93 minutes (or 1h 33m) to cut the lawn.
    I decided it would be easiest to get how long cutting 10% of the lawn would be for the push mower because it cuts 10% of the lawn, but I did that for the ride mower too, so that I could compare them easily.
    This is the work I did:
    Push = 5h = 100%
    Push = 1h = 20%
    Push = 30m = 10%
    I now know that the push mower took 30mins.
    Ride = 70m = 100%
    I divided by 10:
    Ride = 7m = 10%
    I then did 7x9=63 to get what 90% of the lawn would take.
    Ride = 63m = 90%
    Push = 30m = 10%
    90%+10%=100%
    63+30=93m
    Therefore, Manny took 93 minutes to do the lawn.

  7. It took Manny Ker 93 minutes to mow the lawn.
    How I got this answer was that I knew that 90 percent is equal to 9/10 so I did 70 ÷ 10 to get 7. so that meant it takes 7 minutes to mow 1/10 of the lawn. So then I multiplied 7 by 9 to get how long it would take to mow 9/10 of the lawn, which was 63 minutes. Now I knew that took 63 minutes to mow 9/10 of the lawn or 90%. Then I had to find the next 10% that was mowed by the push mower. So I first converted 5 hours to minutes by doing 60 x 5 to get 300. Then I did 300 ÷ 5 to get how long it took to mow 10% or 1/10 of the lawn which was 30 minutes. Then I added 63 and 30 to get 93 minutes.

  8. OK, the first thing I thought when I read this question was ' What is 90% of 70'?
    I know that 10% of 70 is 7, and 10% x = 90% therefore 7 x 9 = 90% and 7 x 9= 63.
    Okay,it took Manny 63 minutes to do 90% on the powerful mower. Now I need to find out how long he was on the push motor.
    It takes 300 minutes to mow a whole lawn with this push mower we need to find what 10% of 300.
    10% of 300=30 and 30 +63= 93 minutes
    Therefor, It took 93 minutes to mow the whole lawn.

  9. To mow the entire lawn, it took Manny 93 minutes, or 1 hour and 33 mins.
    How I solved the problem:

    I knew the push mower took 5 hours/300 mins is mow the entire lawn, and the powerful riding mower took 1 hour and 10mins/70 mins. And that I needed 10% of the push mower time.

    I divided each mower time by 10 to get 10% of each:
    Powerful Rider: 70mins ÷ 10 = 7 mins = 10%
    Push Mower: 300mins ÷ 10 = 30 mins = 10%

    Since I new that the powerful rider was 90%, I multiplied the 10% by 9 to get 63 mins = 90%
    Only 10% was left over from the push mover. That was 30mins. = 10%

    63mins + 30mins = 93mins/1 hour and 33 mins

    It took many 1hour and 33mins to row the entire lawn.

  10. The way I found out the amount of time he took was:
    first I changed 5hrs to minutes(300 min)
    then I divided each by 10 to find out 10% of each
    70/10=7
    300/10=30
    then I multiplied 7 by nine to make it 90%(63)
    since he only mowed 10% percent with the other mower, I don't do anything else with the 30 min
    63+30=93
    So manny took 93 minutes to mow the entire lawn

    ReplyDelete
  11. First I took out what I needed:
    1 lawn with push mower: 5 h
    1 lawn with riding mower: 70 minute
    Then, I divided 70 into 10 to see what was 10% percent of 70 which is 7. If I now know that it would take 7 min to do 10% of the lawn with the riding mower I can either take away 7 from 70 or multiply 7 by 9 which either way would result as 63min to cut 90% of the lawn.
    Now, If it took 5h to cut the entire lawn with the push mower, I would need to divide that into 10 to get what is 10%. An easier way of doing this to 5h, is converting it into min. 60 min (1 hour) times 5h=300min.
    300/10=30. So if 90% took 63min with the riding mower, and then the remaining 10% took 30 min with the push mower, added together, it took 93 min or 1h and 33min to cut the entire lawn.

  12. 1.7x9(9=9/10)=63m (90% with Power Mower)
    2.5hx60=300m
    =30m/10% (relative to push mower ratio)
    3.30m+63m
    =10%(push mover)+90%(power mower)=93m
    The solution is 93 minutes
    First, I multiplied 7 by 9, as they are calculating in 10% intervals, so the 90% must be divided by 10 to get the correct number (9). But if I divided the 9 by 10, in order to preserve the relative scale of all numbers, I must also divide the 70 minutes into 7 by doing the same thing as I did to 90%. Doing this gave me the the amount of minutes it took to mow 90 % of the lawn, in accurate scale relative to the one mentioned in the question, which was 63m.
    Then, I multiplied 5 hours by 60 (mins. in hour), to get the amount of time relative to the unit being used to calculate the time of the other mower, which was minutes. As there were 60 minutes in a hour, I multiplied it (5 hours) by 60 to get the amount of time passed in a minute. This got me 300 minutes in 5 hours. 300 must then be divided by 10, as that squared will get me 100, thus meaning that will get me the amount of a fraction of 1/10 relative to the total, or 10% of the time it took/had to mow the whole lawn.
    This gave me 30 minutes per 10 percent of the job.
    Finally, I combined the times to get the work done, which were relative to 10% and 90%, meaning if I combine them, I will get the total time relative to the amount of time Manny worked on each. Doing this got me 93 minutes or 1 hour 33 minutes as the final answer

  14. It took Manny 93 minutes. I first started off with the powerful mower. In that area it takes him 70 minutes to cut 100% of the grass but he only cut 90% with that mower. So I would need to find 90% or 0.9 of 70. To do this you multiply 70 by 0.9 giving you 63. This means he spent 63 minutes using the powerful mower. The other mower takes 5 hours to cut all the grass. Since he only used the push mower, for 10% of the grass (Since 100-90 is 10), I would multiply 0.1 by 5 to find 10% of 5. The product is 0.5 which is actually 0.5 hours. This is not useful so I would need to convert it to minutes, since 0.5 is 1/2, I divide the amount of minutes in an hour (60 minutes) by 2. So he spent 30 minutes with the push mower. Now, I add up 63 and 30 giving me a sum of 93. So he spent 93 minutes cutting the grass/

  15. He spends 93 minutes cutting the grass. I know this because he uses the powerful mower for 90% of the lawn. 90% of 70 is 63 because 70 multiplied by 0.9 is 63. the other 10 % of the lawn is mowed by the other mower which takes 5 hours or 300 minutes to cut the same lawn. 10% of 300 minutes is 30 minutes so that means he uses that mower for 30 minutes. 30+63=93, so Manny Kerr took a total of 93 minutes to mow the lawn.

  16. 1/10 of 70 minutes is 7 minutes, so 70 - 7= 63 min spent with the powerful mover. If he did 90% of the lawn, I would have to find how long 1/10 of 5 hours would be, and add it up to find the sum. 1/10 of 300 minutes is 30 minutes. That means the sum to find how long he spent is 63 min+ 30min= 93 minutes.

  17. Since I know it takes 70 mins to mow the lawn for the powerful mover so I divided 70 by 10 to get 7. Then I multiplied 7 by 9 to get 63. Then I know 5 hours is 300 mins and then divided 300 by 10 to get 30 min. Then I added the 2 times to get a final answer of 1 hours 33 Mins.

  18. I know that 10 percent of 70(time it takes to mow 100% of lawn with poerful mower) is 7 (70/10 = 7).
    So, 90% is 7(10%) times 9, 63.
    63min represents the time it takes to do 90% of the lawn with the powerful mower.
    Now all we need to find, is the 10% with the push mower...
    100% of the lawn, with the push mower takes 5 hours, or another wards 300mins.
    10% of 300 is 30, as 300/10 = 30
    30mins (10% by push mower) + 63mins (90% by powerful mower) = 93 mins or 1 hour and 33mins
    All in all, it takes 1hour and 33mins.

  19. Time to mow the lawn 100% riding mower: 70 min. He cut with 90%, so 70(100%)/10=7(10%)
    7(10%)*9=21(90%) so it took him 63 min on a riding mower. Now to find the time on push mower: 100% = 5 hours = 5*60 = 300 min(100%)/10=30(10%) so 90% Riding mower + 10% Push = 63 min + 30 min = 93 min.

    ReplyDelete
  20. i multiplied 70 by .9 and got 63 so that is how long it is for 90 percent of the lawn so 10 percent of 300 min is 30 so 30 plus 63 = 93 min

    ReplyDelete
  21. First I found how long it would take for 10% of each mower. So for the push you had to do 5 hours divided into 10 to get 0.5 hours or 30 minutes .Then for the powerful mower you have to do 70 divided into ten to get 7 minutes per 10%. Since the powerful mower did 90% you multiple 7 by 9 to get 63 minutes. Now the push mower only did 10% so you add 30 minutes to 63. The answer would then be 93 minutes or one hour and 33 minutes.

  22. Manny used 1 hr and 33 mins or 93 mins to mow the lawn.
    He needed to mow 100% of the lawn.
    He used the powerful mower on 90%. This means that he used 90% of 70mins to do this.
    he used the hand mower on the 10%. This means he used 10% of 5hr/300mins to do this.
    After Calculating 70*0.9=63 (aka calculating the part with the whole and the percentage) I can conclude that the majority of the lawn was mowed in 63mins.
    I then calculated 10% of 300 (aka calculating the part with the whole and the percentage) I can also conclude that the hand mowing took 30 mins.
    63+30=93mins or 1hr and 33 mins.
    Therefore, manny took 93mins or 1hr33mins to finish on lawn mowing job.

  23. Knowing that cutting the entire lawn with the riding mower would take 70 minutes, and that Manny only used this mower for 90% of the lawn, I find 90% of 70 minutes (or 0.9 of 70) which is 63. Then, I find how long it would take to cut the remaining 10% using the push mower, knowing that using the push mower takes 5 hours (or 300 minutes), by finding 10% of 300 (or 0.1 of 300) which is 30. Then, I add the two times together to find how long it took Manny to cut the entire lawn. 63+30 = 93 minutes (or 1 hour 33 minutes).

    Therefore, it took Manny 93 minutes, or 1 hour 33 minutes to cut the lawn.

  24. I figured out the potw answer by dividing some numbers. It takes 70 minutes to mow the lawn with a power mower. It is used for 9/10 of the way. Because of that, i know that 1 tenth of 70 is 7, i take 7 away from 70. 70 - 7 = 63 minutes so far. one tenth of the way was with a man powered lawnmower. it takes 300 minutes to mow the entire lawn using man powered mowers. 300/10 = 30, 63 + 30 = 93 minutes. It took 93 minutes to mow the entire lawn.
