On Friday, we intermediate teachers were once again impressed by the level of collaboration and social skills-building that took place during the community-building activity, Four Corners. Furthermore, students showed great metacognitive skills, in being able to think-about and reflect upon their previous week's learning. During the Four Corners reflection activity we heard a wide variety of connections to the four images, from positive experiences to challenges to outright frustrations. It is important that even if you, at times, felt like Pi Patel in the lifeboat against the ferocious tiger (Richard Parker) you still work through your group's challenges and seek positive outcomes. This might take the shape of:
1) allowing other members to voice opinions
2) perhaps agreeing to disagree on a matter
3) maybe even "stepping back" and letting other students take a shot at leading the group
It has been great seeing all of the collaboration within and between classes and grades. We will continue with more engaging and interesting Friday activities the week following Thanksgiving. Stay tuned!
