7+12+5=24, 30-24=6 students that didn't bring the teacher anything.
If 5 students did both then we subtract that from the total of students who brought the teachers cards or chocolates because they are included (12-5=7, 17-5=12). Then we add all numbers, 7+12+5=24 and 30-24=6 students who didn't bring the teacher anything.
First I subtracted the amount of students that brought chocolates and cards: 12 - 5 = 7 17 - 5 = 12 Then I added all the students who brought gifts: 7 = 12 = 5 =24 Finally, I subtracted this from the amount of students in the class: 30 - 24 = 6 Therefore, 6 students did not bring the teacher any gifts.
Since 5 students brought both, I just chose a random number from 12 and 17 (I chose 12) and subtracted it by 5. Then I added 7 & 17 together to get the total of people who brought stuff (24). Then I just did 30-24 and got 6 as my answer.
At first I did, 12+17+5. But, the number was greater than 30 so I knew that the 5 people had to be part of the 12 and 17
To solve this problem we first need to subtract the 5 people that gave both from each section (card and chocolate). So: 12-5=7 and 17-5=12 Now to add them up 12+7=24 but we are now missing the other 5 people who did give both so they only count as 1 not 2 therefore we can add 5: 19+5=24 24 children gave the teacher at least something so 6/30 didn't. Furthermore, 6 people didn't give the teacher a chocolate or a card.
The answer would be 6. I know this as in a class of 30 people 17 brought a card, 12 brought chocolates, and 5 did both. Therefore I know that I have to subtract 5 from each of the categories (chocolates and cards). 17 - 5 = 12; 12 - 5 = 7 12 + 7 = 19 19 + 5 = 24 30 - 24 = 6
That means that 6 people didn't bring anything for their teacher
12-5=7 People who brought chocolate 17-5=12 People who brought card 12+17= 19 People who brought one of those 19 + 5= People who brought both 30- 24= 6 People who didn't bring anything
6 People

Good job everyone! It was in fact 6 students who did not bring anything for their poor old, old, old teacher.

ReplyDeletesix students didn't give anything to the teacher
17 & 12 are our numbers. 17 -5 = 12 , 12-5 = 7 , +5 = 24. Therefore 30-24 = 6 Students
